Endowed Chair in Honey Bee Research

The University of Minnesota Bee Research Lab is known internationally for promoting healthy bees and sustainable beekeeping practices. Through an endowed chair position, CFANS (College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences), the Department of Entomology, and the Bee Lab seek to ensure that essential honey bee research continues long into the future.

Dr. Marla Spivak will be retiring at the end of 2024. The best way to ensure that the legacy of honey bee research that started at the University of Minnesota in 1918 continues into the future, is by endowing the Honey Bee Research Chair in the Department of Entomology. We are working to raise the $5,000,000 needed to permanently endow this chair. We have about $2,000,000 left to raise hopefully by the end of June 30, 2024 so that the department can begin the search process before Marla's retirement and honey bee research can continue with limited interruption.

An endowed chair will allow the University to attract exceptional candidates to carry on the legacy of honey bee research at the U.
